Tenille West is a jazz and contemporary singer based in Brisbane, with a versatility that spans across many genres of music. Tenille, who also goes simply by the nickname ‘Tee', is in particular drawn to jazz vocals as they allow her to explore a vast array of texture color and shape, throughout a heartfelt story. Hailing infamous artist Anita O’ Day as her Queen, and worshipping the work of Nina Simone, Tenille is also influenced by contemporary pop artists such as Sia and Florence Welsch. Tenille’s work serves to honor those before her with a traditional swingin’ feel, with just a touch of the contemporary. Her tonality ranging from bright and pure, all the way through to dark and mellow gives her the ability to tell a story, woven with raw emotion and a cheeky sense of humor. Known to audiences for her ability to engage, Tenille wants the whole room to be welcomed and immersed.
Tenille performs regularly around Brisbane working with various projects. Highlights have included a week-long set of shows at Woodford Folk Festival with the band Ladi Abundance and performing as a guest vocalist with 13 piece Rhythm Society Dance Orchestra to sold out shows at the Brisbane Jazz Club. Tenille also recently flew to Melbourne to perform a sold out show at the infamous Butterfly Club with James Halloran’s “Debutante Ball”, with guest reviewer describing her vocals as reaching “Wuthering Heights”. Currently in 2019, Tenille is busy working with two band projects Yas Queen! and Umbriel. Following her appearance at the MELT festival at Brisbane Powerhouse- Tenille is preparing and looking forward to her show with Yas Queen at the Spiegletent as part of the Brisbane festival.
